Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday pardoned Daniel Perry , the Army veteran who was convicted of murdering a Black Lives Matter protester in Austin in 2020. The move came shortly after the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles recommended a full pardon for Perry, who had been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the killing, which turned him into a cause célèbre among some Republican s who argued that he acted in self-defense.
