Italy struggled to contain England who now top the table after their 68-5 defeat of Italy
Italy hit back quickly and used England’s strongest asset against them. They formed a maul which marched over with Sara Tounesi reaping the rewards.
The visitors suffered a blow at 26 minutes as inside-centre Beatrice Rigoni went off for a head injury assessment , temporarily replaced by Beatrice Capomaggi, and shortly after England thought they had the bonus-point try. MacDonald spotted Breach with acres of grass ahead of her and threw a long pass to see her over for her second of the afternoon. But referee Kat Roche overturned the decision after the TMO showed hooker Amy Cokayne blocking Capomaggi in the build-up.
Giada Franco made a massive break as the second 40 got underway but her shouts of frustration could be heard from the stands a few phases later as England won the breakdown penalty.

Scientists warn ocean circulation around Antarctica may head for ‘full collapse’Australian scientists have presented a landmark study which warns the deep ocean circulation around Antarctica may be heading for a “full collapse”, says UNSW Climate Change Research Centre’s Matthew England. “When ice melts around Antarctica it’s very fresh – that water is not very dense so it doesn’t sink anymore,” Mr England told Sky News Australia. “This massive overturning that’s been there for thousands and thousands of years – it already has evidence that it’s starting to slow down. “Our projections are that in the future it will slow down as much as a half by the middle of the century – and then after that it looks like it’s on track for a full collapse. “Oxygen is declining in the ocean abyss, the very bottom layers of the oceans – also the oceans down there are warming quite dramatically –we’re no longer getting this cold water … the cold water that comes down the shelf, that’s no longer getting down to the ocean abyss. “That’s a sign that the oceans are basically stagnating down there – we’re losing the ventilation that the surface waters provide.”

‘The time to act is now’: Calls for net-zero emissions as ocean around Antarctica heads for ‘collapse’All the world’s nations need to “act now” and aim for net-zero emissions as Australian scientists warn the ocean’s circulation is slowing down around Antarctica, says UNSW Climate Change Research Centre’s Matthew England. “The problem with it slowing down is that it actually stagnates … the bottom of the ocean,” Mr England told Sky News Australia. “That means that nutrients that sink to the bottom are left there, and they don’t get brought back up to the surface to generate life, to help grow phytoplankton and so on. “We want these overturning circulations to be bringing the water up from the ocean abyss – it’s nutrient rich, it feeds our fisheries at the surface. If we collapse that overturning, we sort of cut off a major source of nutrient upwelling back up to the surface. “As soon as we can stabilise emissions, get the atmospheric concentration stable, we can stabilise the ice shelfs and ice sheets of Antarctica. “But the later we leave it the less chance we have of doing that and the more chance we have of these sorts of overturning circulations that are critical for the health of our oceans – with emissions cuts we can probably save this from a full collapse.”
