Charles R. Cross, a music journalist best known for his biographies of such rock stars as Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix, has died. He was 67.

Charles R. Cross holds his book, "Room Full of Mirrors," a biography of Jimi Hendrix, at his home in Shoreline, Wash., Thursday, July 28, 2005. Cross died on Aug. 9 at the age of 67.

His 2001 biography “Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain” was a New York Times bestseller and won the 2002 ASCAP Award for Outstanding Biography. He followed that up with “Cobain Unseen” in 2008, which featured never-seen artifacts, journal entries, and pictures from the Nirvana frontman’s archives.
