Michelle Bromley-Hesketh, owner of Snowdrop Doula Cafe and shop, says dwindling footfall and rising costs are making it difficult to sustain her businesses. The closure of WH Smith, cited as unsustainable by the retailer, adds to her concerns.
The owner of a shop and cafe in Accrington Arndale says she may have to close its doors if footfall does not increase following WH Smith’s announcement of its departure from the shopping precinct. Michelle Bromley-Hesketh runs Snowdrop Doula Cafe and the Snowdrop Doula shop in Accrington Arndale . She says trade has at least halved for her businesses over the last year due to lack of footfall in the Arndale, and at the same time she has been battling with rising water and electric bills.

I know what business is like. “I think people just don’t come to the Arndale due to the cost of living crisis people prefer to shop online for cheaper alternatives. But I do think it’s nice we have the smaller businesses in Accrington and although people say the town is full of charity shops we need them. “They do important work.” She says the Arndale was packed when spandau Ballet star, Martin Kemp, headlined the #AmazingAccrington Christmas Extravaganza in November and events such as these would help increase footfall in the shopping centre. Snowdrop Doula Cafe is a community cafe for mums, babies and toddlers, while the shop offers second hand baby clothes and goods for free to those in nee
