'Every route into Accrington leads away from the town centre'
hyndburn-council>Hyndburn Council’s deputy leader Cllr Peter Britcliffe has met with Lancashire County Council’s highways boss Cllr Rupert Swarbrick to discuss rejigging the traffic flows around Accrington. They agreed to look at issues including the obsolete bus lane on Whalley Road, the direction of travel on Holmes Street, and the standardisation of time limits on car parks in the town centre.
“Currently every route into Accrington leads away from the town centre. We want to make town centre more accessible and people to have more time to enjoy it especially with more than £30million of ‘Levelling Up’ money from the government due to be spent on improving it. “I would like to see a change in the direction of traffic on Holmes Street to allow easier access to town centre. Currently we have free Lancashire County Council car parks with a variety of time limits on one hour, two hours and three hours.
