She won the women's doubles and mixed doubles titles.
It comes as no surprise that Amy Ackerman has claimed five All Africa Championships women’s doubles titles since 2021, including a remarkable streak of four in a row from 2023 to 2026. A specialist in her craft, Ackerman continues to underline her status as one of the continent’s premier doubles players, combining sharp awareness with a clear understanding of her role on court.
That composure was once again on full display when she teamed up with Johanita Scholtz to secure the SA Open women’s doubles title at John Barrable Hall on April 14. The pair, who have now lifted continental honours together in 2021, 2025 and earlier this year, proved yet again why they are such a formidable combination. Ackerman dictated proceedings at the net with precision and authority, her control creating the perfect platform for Scholtz’s relentless movement and attacking flair from the back court as they powered to a 21-8, 21-10 victory over youngsters Yiwen Li and Chloe Lai. It was a partnership built on balance, understanding and trust – one that continues to deliver silverware. Ackerman’s winning run did not end there. She went on to clinch the mixed doubles title alongside Jarred Elliott, edging out the pairing of Caden Kakora and Scholtz 21-18, 24-22 in a tightly contested final. Reflecting on the achievement, Ackerman emphasised the importance of consistency at the highest level. “It’s a truly significant achievement. Each year we compete in this tournament, we’re met with new challenges; whether it’s rising juniors eager to make their mark or adapting to new partnerships,” she said. Even though we’ve partnered before, finding our rhythm again in a competitive setting is always fun.” The 21-year-old from Springs said winning both titles in front of family and friends made the moment even more special. “Having them watch me compete against some of the best players in South Africa, many of them seeing it for the first time, fills me with pride and reminds me how fortunate I am to have such a strong support system behind me.” She added that lifting the titles for the Eastern Gauteng Badminton Association sent a strong message nationally. “It’s a real statement on a national level. It also means a lot knowing that the juniors who came to watch could experience what high-level competition looks like – the intensity, the pace and the standard of play. Hopefully, it inspires them to push themselves and aim even higher.” Ackerman will next travel to Denmark with the national senior side for the Thomas and Uber Cup from April 25 to May 3, and believes the SA Open has provided the perfect platform heading into the global showpiece. “It’s been great preparation, helping me get into the right mindset while sparring with top players from across the country. Starting off with strong, competitive matches has been invaluable in setting the tone,” she said. Also Read: EGBA star Ackerman claims SA Open and Melvill Cup doubles titles

Social Development Minister Explains Luxury Vehicle Registration in Children's NamesSocial Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe has stated that she registered two luxury BAIC vehicles, donated by Chinese officials and valued at R1m, in her children's names to protect them from potential seizure. Tolashe told the ANC's integrity commission that this measure was to safeguard the donations, as registering them with the ANC Women's League (ANCWL), which she leads, could have led to asset freezing if the league faced legal action. She argued that due to financial difficulties, assets registered with the ANC and its leagues are at risk of attachment. Tolashe also stated she did not declare the vehicles as her own in parliament because they belonged to the women's organisation, not for personal benefit.
