But who exactly is Scarlet Spider?
Across the Spider-Verse
, we don't get to learn much about the character in this universe. He's the brooding hero from Earth-94, spending his time moping and flexing his muscles. What you might not know is that while Reilly might be a popular comic-book character now, he was once a divisive addition to Marvel lore thanks to his part in the hated#149, Reilly was an unnamed clone of Peter Parker who was created by the villain Miles Warren, aka Jackal. The character was killed in the same issue, and many thought that was that. He returned in 1994's#118, having survived his apparent death and taken on the name of Ben Reilly after living in exile.
Crowning himself as the new Jackal, Reilly took over Warren's cloning facilities and established a place called Haven, harbouring the reanimated clones of Peter Parker's various friends and enemies who died over the years. Relocating to Las Vegas, Reilly had another change of heart to become the Scarlet Spider again, as well as a bizarre crossover with Conan the Barbarian. In 2021'ssaga, Reilly replaced Spider-Man under sponsorship from the mysterious Beyond Corporation but eventually became the villain known as Chasm.
