An ACT government spokeswoman confirms they will release the report earlier than planned, but says it is disappointing it was released by the board of inquiry to some media outlets outside of government procedures.
The ACT government has bowed to political and public pressure, and will formally release the report from an inquiry into the prosecution of former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann next week. The report heavily criticised ACT's top prosecutor, Shane Drumgold, whose allegations of political interference in Mr Lehmann's case sparked the inquiry
The inquiry, led by former Queensland judge Walter Sofronoff KC, examined the conduct of criminal justice agencies in the case against Mr Lehrmann over the alleged rape of Brittany Higgins. When contacted by the ABC yesterday, Mr Drumgold said he had not seen the report, or been informed about any of its contents, so was unable to comment.
"The release of information about the inquiry outside of the government procedures has affected the inquiry process and harmed people involved," the spokeswoman said.
