Action Comics #1, the comic that introduced Superman in 1938, has sold for a record-breaking $6 million at an auction. The comic, in very good condition, broke its own world record and is considered one of the most important comics ever published.
by CNN Newsource/WKRCUNDATED - It might be time to dig that old comic book collection out of storage.But, it wasn't just your average comic that set the record, it was Action Comics #1 , better known as the issue that first introduced Superman in 1938.
It sold at Heritage Auctions for $6 million on Thursday. The sale officially broke its own world record. Despite the age of the comic, it was still in very good condition, only having a little wear near the top of the book. As it stands, only two other unrestored copies still exist in a better condition than this one,Back in 2022, a copy of the same comic sold privately for $5.3 million. The previous record before this was set when Amazing Fantasy #15 sold for $3.6 million in 2021. Amazing Fantasy #15 is best known as the comic that featured the debut of Spider-Man.
The story was originally written by two friends, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. It revealed Superman's origins as an alien escaping the destruction of his home planet, and it also introduced the world to Lois Lane.
