“It was one of the most dangerous amusement parks in the world, and it was awesome,” an organizer of the Aug. 30 event said.
That includes the time he broke his nose on the Cannonball Loop, the infamous looping water slide that was among Action Park’s beloved and hazardous attractions before the iconic waterpark closed in 1996.
Action Park, which opened in 1978, has a complicated legacy in New Jersey. While it retains a legion of fans, the danger was real. “It was a tube that you would get in and slide down. If you didn’t have enough centrifugal force and speed, you could fall down inside of it,” Fiorito said. “You could go into the middle of the mountains of New Jersey and do whatever you wanted to do,” he said.
