Actions of a few' spark resident nightmare near Darwen recycling plant plagued by break-ins
Council bosses have slammed the "actions of a few" who are causing disruption to residents after it was revealed a recycling centre is broken into on an almost daily basis.
Textile items could not be recycled on Wednesday due to a skip being out of use as a result of the break-in at the site which is one of two operated by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council alongside the centre in George Street West.Ste Wilson, who has worked at one of the businesses in Spring Vale Road for the last 10 years, said the problem is "getting worse".
Bosses at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council have since slammed those responsible for the break-ins and said "the actions of a few are disrupting facilities used by residents". Tony Watson, Head of Environment and Operations at the council, said: "The HWRCs are operated by the contractor Suez, on behalf of the Council, via a contract they have with us. The replacement of the CCTV is the contractor, Suez’s responsibility.
