June 6 marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day – the invasion of Normandy – which proved to be a turning point in World War II.A community choir from Adams County will perform at a ceremony that will draw world leaders.'Hopefully we'll do justice for our town,' singer Mary Hirsh said.Under the direction of Jane Johnston, the East Berlin Community Singers will perform in Normandy, France, before world leaders and some of the last remaining heroes of that pivotal invasion and World War II.
For her, it's personal: Her father fought in World War II.'He was in third armored tank division. He was a good man. He was very soft-spoken. He never talked about it that much,' she said.A number of choir members have relatives who served during World War II.'My dad was in World War II. He was on the U.S.S. Corvis, and they carried part of the A-bomb over to the South Pacific,' Wills said.
