A Channel 4 series that sees real murder trials re-enacted is apparently set to return
A "terrifying" courtroom programme that captivated viewers is reportedly set to return for a fourth series. TVZone reports that Channel 4 has greenlit another instalment of The Jury: Murder Trial - where actual murder cases are recreated before juries made up of members of the public - before the third series has even been broadcast.
The third series is apparently expected to premiere later this year, with a fourth series understood to be currently in production and scheduled to air next year, reports the Mirror. The Jury: Murder Trial launched in 2024, scrutinising the jury system by reconstructing an entire, real murder trial from the original transcripts. Shot over multiple days, the series provided an in-depth examination of the trial process's inner workings.
In the opening series, actors portraying barristers and judges re-enacted a case where a man had confessed to killing his wife, but whose defence argued that he lost control, and was consequently not guilty of murder. The show, which claimed the Best Reality award at the 2025 Bafta TV Awards, made a comeback in 2025, with the second series recreating the trial of a woman accused of fatally stabbing her partner when he attempted to strangle her.
Speaking when the series was initially launched, Alf Lawrie, Channel 4's head of factual entertainment, said: "This fascinating and ground-breaking programme asks profound questions about the justice system.
"Lifting the lid on what most people know little about this revealing show could be described as putting the jury system itself on trial. " The series has garnered widespread critical acclaim, with the Financial Times describing it as "gripping television", while The Guardian's reviewer enthused: "TV doesn't get more addictive ... or more harrowing. " Viewers were equally enthusiastic, with many taking to social media to declare they were "bingeing" the series, hailing it a "brilliant" watch.
"I've just binged through it this afternoon," wrote one viewer, while another described it as a "fascinating concept". "This enthralling look at our judiciary shows how worryingly easily 12 people can be swayed," commented one admirer, with another describing it as "truly terrifying". "It is shocking and scary," added yet another viewer. Channel 4 has been contacted for comment. The Jury: Murder Trial is available to stream on Channel 4.
