Notts County could only name a five-man bench for the FA Cup First Round tie against Crawley Town
Notts County battled through the increasing list of injury problems to progress in the FA Cup at the weekend, with defender Aden Baldwin praising the resilience of the squad during this period. Luke Williams could only name a five-man bench on Saturday in the 3-2 win over Crawley Town, with two of those names being youth team players with the Magpies being pushed to the wire by a side who have surprised a few teams in League Two this term.
He said: “It probably wasn’t our best performance, but at the end of the day, we got the job done, but we’re looking for perfection so we’ve got to be better at lots of elements of the game. We knew they were going to press high and throw lots of bodies forward but we showed good character with players like Connell and Lewis next to me so I thought we were brilliant at the back today.
Baldwin believes that the team are not fazed by the number of injuries in the squad currently, with the burning desire still there to compete and win every game they are involved in, with the cup games not being treated as distractions or inconveniences. He added: “Everyone knows about the amount of injuries we’ve got at the moment but we still want to win every game and compete on all fronts, with the manager putting out the best team he can.
