Simon's mother, Ksenia Sonina, criticised the decision as 'an idiotic decision' and 'completely avoidable
Aer Lingus is currently investigating an incident where a 13-year-old boy was left alone at Barcelona Airport for 12 hours after being denied boarding due to an overbooked flight. Dublin er Simon Sonin, who was travelling alone, was not allowed to board the flight by Aer Lingus staff last Saturday.Simon's mother, Ksenia Sonina, criticised the decision as "an idiotic decision" and "completely avoidable".
However, once he passed security, he was alone. When he reached the gate, he was informed that the flight was full and he could not board, reports the Irish Mirror. Yet, it remains unclear why Aer Lingus staff at Barcelona Airport chose to deny boarding to the unaccompanied minor. He had travelled to Spain for a sports camp and his mother Ksenia had accompanied him to Dublin Airport as far as security, waiting until she was informed he was safely on the flight and the plane doors had closed.
