Industry sources expect a softening of position on stricter advertising rules ahead of an appearance by Gil McLachlan and Andrew Abdo in Canberra.

The inquiry has garnered attention within the industry because senior figures expect the committee’s findings will be key to any new legislation.

However, during a Melbourne radio interview last week, Mr McLachlan said there was “probably too much” gambling advertising and “it’s in your face”. A senior source at the NRL said the organisation was still considering its position ahead of Mr Abdo’s appearance next week.
