After schooling Drake, Kendrick Lamar delivers surprise commencement address to Compton College
"I’m proud of the city of Compton, I’m proud of Compton College, most importantly I'm proud of the graduates out here."But after his beef with the Canadian emcee had been unofficially laid to rest, Lamar made a surprise appearance on Saturday at Compton College where he delivered a commencement address to the class of 2024."I wanted to come out here just to tell y’all how much I appreciate y’all," the Compton native said.
Lamar went on to extoll the virtues of his hometown, and urged the graduates to be proud of their degree, their alma mater, and their city.“Seeing y'all out here, it is not only a representation of the world, but it’s a representation of me," the 36-year-old rapper said. "When I walk out in these cities, in these countries, I can be proud and say, 'This is where I’m from.
"Now it's all about taking these resources and taking what you learned and applying. It's as simple as that," the 17-time Grammy-winner remarked. "You'll have hardships, you gonna have tribulations as you had coming up here, but guess what? You have someone special in your corner and all around you and that's God, period. Every step of the way."" One might say it, but Kendrick Lamar won't be that one.
