Texas Rangers pinch hitter Robbie Grossman celebrates with second baseman Marcus Semien after hitting a solo home run during the seventh inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at Globe Life Field on Sunday, July 7, 2024.On Sunday, they pummeled Tampa Bay 13-2 to finish off their second home sweep of the year. It gave them a 4-2 mark for the homestand.
“We’ve got to go,” said Sunday starter Nathan Eovaldi, who pitched seven quality innings and who would likely be the most desirable trade chip on the roster. “This is a big week for us.” All that said, there were some indicators the Rangers have some charge left in their battery. On Saturday, they got a jolt from Marcus Semien’s two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh that gave them back the lead after they’d lost in the top of the inning. It was only the second time this year they’ve had a homer in the seventh or later that took them from a deficit to the lead. It also led to a 4-3 win, only their second one-run win since May 18. They had been 1-7 in the interim.
“You make your own luck, too,” Bochy said. “But it was good to see the ball bounce our way. I think batted balls are going to average out eventually.”The Rangers scored single runs in each of their last three at-bats, giving them 13, their most since a pair of 15-run games against Kansas City and Oakland in a week-long span in early May.View More, Rangers beat writer/insider.
