Two brokers from ex Fleetwood FC chairman Andy Pilley's 'rotten and corrupt' energy firm have been spared jail after lying, cheating and terrifying small business owners into high fare contracts.
The court heard that the Belmont Hotel in Blackpool was among Shaw's victims. The owner, Mrs Maybury, said she felt bullied by Shaw and that his lies left her with anxiety other similar issues. Among the lies he peddled, Shaw claimed the business would be placed on an emergency tariff if they didn't immediately sign up; that the previous tenants had paid a higher rate than they had said; and that BES was the lowest fare available.
During the course of her deceits, she would claim to have access to tariffs from all suppliers and give inflated prices when discussing competitors. She would claim to have access to information which showed existing suppliers were charging higher rates than promised despite this being entirely untrue.
