‘Aghon’ intensifies; storm signal 1 up in several areas

TROPICAL Depression Aghon, the country’s first cyclone this year, slightly intensified Friday afternoon, May 24, 2024, as it moved westward, said the state weather bureau.As of 11 a.m. Friday, the center of Aghon was located 135 kilometers east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, packing maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour , gusts of up to 70 km/h, and central pressure of 1006 hPa.

Pagasa said that Aghon will bring moderate to rough seas over the coastal waters along the northern and eastern seaboards of Eastern Visayas and the eastern seaboard of Caraga Region Friday afternoon, May 24.The tropical depression was forecast to move generally west northwestward to northwestward from Friday until Saturday while slowly intensifying.
