The aid extended to those directly affected by the eruption of Mayon Volcano has reached P131.2 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
It said 42,815 people or 11,045 families in 26 villages in Bicol have been affected by Mayon's activity. Of these, 21,741 persons have been displaced from their homes and are now staying in 28 evacuation centers.Currently, 18 schools and 290 classrooms are being used as evacuation centers in Albay and Tabaco City.Classes remain suspended in at least six municipalities.
A state of calamity has been declared in 18 cities and municipalities in Bicol.Alert Level 3 has been maintained, which means that the volcano is in a relatively high level of unrest.In its latest bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said Mayon Volcano emitted 962 tonnes of sulfur dioxide in the past 24 hours which is higher compared to the 864 tonnes reported on Sunday.
