Police are investigating two armed attacks Saturday on an entrance to a training annex. No signs point to a political or terrorist motive, authorities say.

A pair of armed attacks on the entrance to a training annex at Joint Base San Antonio - Lackland do not appear to have been acts of terrorism or political violence, a JBSA spokeswoman said Monday. “We have no indication it was political or terrorist in nature,” said Stefanie 'Stevi' Antosh, a spokeswoman for the joint base, the nation's largest. Asked what motivated the violence, she said, “We can’t speculate at this time.

The guards called for backup in case the attackers returned. Shortly before 5 a.m., the sedan stopped just east of the gate at Ray Ellison Boulevard and Medina Base Road. The assailants again shot at the gate, and this time the Air Force guards returned fire before the sedan sped off. Antosh said there was more than one shooter in the vehicle, but the exact number was unknown. No details of the car’s make, model or color were released.
