The number of short-term rental properties for tourists in the city would be limited under the prposals
A popular European holiday destination is planning a crackdown on Airbnb and other short-term holiday rentals. Protests have erupted in recent months in places such as Majorca and the Canary Islands over the negative effects of holiday rentals, which includes higher rents and antisocial behaviour. London, Amsterdam and Paris have set up limits on the number of nights an apartment can be rented annually.
Limiting the number of tourist apartments in cities such as Prague would also reduce noise disturbance. Earlier this year, one district council proposed a ban on outlandish costumes worn by stag and hen parties, which it said encouraged drunk and rowdy behaviour in Prague’s popular nightlife district. Some councillors suggested that “socially unacceptable” attire was contributing to nighttime noise and unruliness, particularly on organised pub crawls.
