School scooped the Glasgow and Strathclyde award last year, but secured the top national prize this time around thanks to two clean-ups where they collected 83 bags of litter.

An Airdrie school has been crowned national champion in a litter picking competition for youngsters across Scotland.

Katrina Donnelly, Hilltop Primary head teacher, said: “As a school, we are absolutely delighted that our efforts in keeping our local community and school grounds litter free have been recognised.

Barry Fisher, chief executive at Keep Scotland Beautiful, added: “After such an amazing first year of our Litter League competition, I’m thrilled to see even more young people across Scotland getting involved this time around.
