Airdrieonians FC has parted ways with head coach Aaron Taylor-Sinclair after deciding to move in a different direction following their relegation. 'Sinky' will be replaced by former St Mirren and Scotland goalkeeper Andy Goram on an interim basis.
when he was officialy appointed in January, but the New Broomfield board have made the decision to part company with the -year-old after the club were beaten by Alloa Athletic in the Championship play-off semi-finals earlier this month.
'Sinky' took the reins on a interim basis twice last season amid Rhys McCabe's resignation in August and Danny Lennon's sacking after just eight games in October. He managed to improve performances to take the Diamonds off the bottom of the table and on the final day of the campaign had the chance to avoid the relegation play-offs with a win at Morton.
Despite taking the lead, Morton equalised for a 1-1 draw and that saw the Diamonds drop into the play-offs before their fate was sealed. A club statement read: "Airdrieonians FC have today parted company with head coach Aaron Taylor-Sinclair.
"Following discussions in the aftermath of our recent relegation, the club has made the decision to move in a different direction, and Aaron leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future. "Joining the club from Falkirk in 2022, Aaron brought experience and versatility to the Diamonds’ defence as the club successfully navigated the play-offs and won promotion to the Championship.
"Renewing his contract in 2023, ‘Sinky’ also took on a first-team coaching role, and a year later was named assistant manager. "Following the departures of both Rhys McCabe and Danny Lennon, Aaron took the reins as interim manager before being named head coach at the beginning of this year.
"As well as making 42 appearances as a player and scoring one memorable goal against Falkirk, Aaron won seven caps for the Antigua & Barbuda national side while representing the Diamonds. "As head coach of Airdrie, Aaron battled hard against relegation despite taking charge while the club were in an unfavourable position, ultimately falling short in the play-off semi-final while contending with a host of injuries.
"Aaron’s talent and professionalism will serve him well in his future career, and everyone at the club wishes him all the best as he moves on. "
