Through the year 2000 we heard more and more of a strange terror group commanded by a weird fanatic in an Afghan cave. Name of Al Qaeda, commanded by Osama bin Laden. Bombs in US embassies in Africa, a suicide attack on an American destroyer off Aden. Then in 2001 came 9/11 - the destruction of the World Trade Centre, New York City. Three thousand dead. We were at war. No choice.Within six months Al Qaeda was broken, its sheltering Taliban government toppled, bin Laden on the run.
