Yazeed Al-Rajhi dominates the 48-hour chrono stage at the Dakar Rally, while Henk Lategan takes the overall lead after a challenging two-day stage.

Yazeed Al-Rajhi triumphed in the 48-hour chrono stage at the Dakar Rally , while Henk Lategan seized the overall lead. Toyota privateer Al-Rajhi completed the stage with a time of 10h32m54s, 4m29s ahead of Dacia's Nasser Al-Attiyah after they pulled clear on the first day. Factory Toyota driver Lategan took over from Seth Quintero at the top of the overall standings after finishing 6m16s behind the stage winner.

Day one of the stage saw some key rally contenders encounter difficulties, with Carlos Sainz rolling his Ford Raptor and Sebastien Loeb experiencing fan problems, allowing Al-Rajhi and Al-Attiyah to surge ahead. Competitors were challenged to cover as much of the route as possible on the first day, with a 5pm local time cutoff dividing the stage into two parts. After camping at their designated overnight points, the leading duo had 341km remaining to complete the stage on day two, with Mattias Ekstrom maintaining a top-three position. While Al-Rajhi gained two minutes over Al-Attiyah from the day's starting gaps at the 782km mark, Spaniards Nani Roma and Cristina Gutierrez faced setbacks, the latter forced to retire to the bivouac, ending her chances of victory. She will be able to rejoin the rally to support the other Dacia drivers. Reigning W2RC champion Al-Attiyah managed to reduce the gap to Al-Rajhi back to just over a minute with barely 100km left in the stage – at one point before that had slashed the advantage to just 26 seconds – but would ultimately fall short, finishing over four minutes back. Lategan assumed the rally lead with his third-place finish on the stage, though that became second after bonuses were applied. Juan Cruz Yacopini secured fourth place, 6m46s behind the stage-winning time but over three minutes ahead of fifth-placed Mathieu Serradori
