A softball game for charity will occur Saturday in Pearl, Miss. Lawmakers are hopeful the weekend can be an annual event.

“It was complete coincidence,” said Alabama House Major Leader Scott Stadthagan, R-Hartselle, about having the softball game two days after the first in-season Major League Baseball game is being held in the State of Alabama between the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals. Both teams will have their own uniforms, and the game has its own logo and tagline that recognizes the Tombigbee River watershed, which encompasses the two states.
“Scott and his leadership team will come early on Friday and meet with our Speaker and leadership team and maybe talk a little bit,” Barton said. “I don’t know where the conversation will go. It may go into policy issues.”As far as the game, itself, the Alabama squad will have experience. For the past three consecutive years, lawmakers in both the House and the Senate compete in a softball game while the Legislature is in session at Riverwalk Stadium in downtown Montgomery.
“It’s the first time we’ve played together,” Barton said. “When called me, I thought it sounds like something that is fun. When he sent me a video of their House and Senate game, I thought it was hilarious. We could’ve used something like this .”
