An Alabama woman who faked her own kidnapping was sentenced Thursday. Carlee Russell appeared in court for a plea hearing and pleaded guilty.

She was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay more than $17,000 in restitution.for false reporting to law enforcement and falsely reporting an incident after she admitted to faking her own kidnapping in Hoover.
At that time, a municipal court judge found Russell guilty on the misdemeanor charges and said each charge carries six months of jail time and an $831 fine. The judge also recommended restitution of nearly $18,000 be paid. In an effort to avoid jail time, Russell's attorney appealed the conviction. After calling 911, she stopped to check on the child and called a family member to report the same details. The family member lost contact with her, but the line remained open.Her family, members of the community, and police conducted several efforts to safely locate Russell who was last seen on I-459.On July 15, at 10:44 p.m. the 911 center in Hoover received a call from Russell's residence that she returned home on foot.She was transported by Hoover Fire Department to UAB to be evaluated.
Hoover Police officers arrived on scene within five minutes of being dispatched, and several other officers arrived shortly behind. On July 18, Hoover Police released new details into the investigation of the night Russell disappeared.
