The Eighth Court of Appeals decision comes almost four years after renters ousted from the Desert Sands Apartments sued the district.

The Alamo Heights Independent School District does not have to pay relocation assistance to tenants evicted from an apartment building it acquired in 2020, a Texas appeals court has ruled. The case was dismissed Aug. 21 by the El Paso -based Eighth Court of Appeals, where it was transferred due to docket availability. The decision ended four years of litigation stemming from the district's purchase of an affordable housing complex across the street from Alamo Heights High School .

-year-old accused of threatening 'mass violence' stays in custody Alamo Heights ISD bought the Desert Sands Apartments in March of 2020 through a contract with a separate entity so it could “negotiate a fair market price for the property without fear that the seller would realize it was negotiating with a governmental entity and try to drive up the sales price,” according to the ruling. Renters at the apartments were on month-to-month leases, paying $515 to $595 per month.
