The Kenai Peninsula runner finished in seventh place and recorded an Olympic standard qualifying time but unfortunately won’t be heading to Paris with Team USA for this year’s games.
Allie Ostrander is introduced before the finals of the 3000-meter steeplechase race during Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, on Thursday, June 27, 2024.
While her resurgent return to competing in steeplechase won’t continue on to the 2024 Olympic Games, Alaska’s Allie Ostrander has plenty to be proud of. The 27-year-old’s gutsy performance in the finals of the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, on Thursday night saw her overcome a slow start to finish in seventh place with a mark of 9 minutes, 21.82 seconds. She last attempted to qualify for the Olympics in 2021.
Not only was it a new personal best for the three-time NCAA national steeplechase champion, who set her previous best earlier this season with a 9:24.70, it was also good enough to meet the Olympic qualifying standard of 9:23.00. Unfortunately, she also needed to finish in the top three to punch her ticket to Paris. The top three finishers who’ll be heading overseas to represent the United States are Valerie Constien , Courtney Wayment and Marisa Howard , all of whom also set new personal bests. Constien’s first-place time also set a new meet record in the event for the Olympic trials.
