The Alaska Department of Transportation released the first amendment to the 2024-2027 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program July 5.

The Fairbanks Area Surface Transportation Planning policy board discusses the Alaska Department of Transportation's first amendment to the 2024-2027 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program July 17, 2024, in Fairbanks, Alaska.FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Alaska’s Metropolitan Planning Organizations are tackling the first round of changes to the 2024-2027 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program .

Alaska was also the only state to have its STIP turned down. But come March, the Federal Highway and Federal Transit administrations partially approved the program following revisions. “Our previous STIP had, I think, seven amendments on it. Some of them are minor admin modifications, and some of them, like this, whenever there’s a larger price change to any project, it has to go through this very public process and a federal approval,” she said.

Fox also said the STIP amendment didn’t show which projects, appropriations and construction timelines had been changed from the previous version of the 1,400-page document, making public input difficult.
