Mr Kenny explained the presumed “worst case scenario” was the LNP would leave an open vote for it members. “This is history in Australia being made tonight – history on the national project of reconciliation,” he told Sky News Australia. “Sadly, what is likely to happen is we’ll end up with a country that is deflated and divided on reconciliation.
“I think the political class, both major parties and the media have let the country down – we have not had a mature debate about this.”
