Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has rejected suggestions US President Joe Biden should intervene in the case of Julian Assange, despite saying"enough is enough" and calling for the case against the Wikileaks founder to be"brought to a conclusion." Picture: Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images The Wikileaks founder has been charged with 17 counts of breaching the US Espionage Act of 1917, as well as one count of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion, all related to the publication of classified information obtained by whistleblower Chelsea Manning.
Mr Joyce said at the time that the wide range of political perspectives – with MPs from the Liberals, Nationals, Labor, Greens, and Teals – would send a powerful message about the broad support in Australia for Assange’s release. Former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce defended Julian Assange by comparing him to former Hollywood couple Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. As the first publisher in history to be charged under the WWI-era Espionage Act, Mr Assange’s case has caused considerable concern among press freedom advocates.
