Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has taken a swipe at Jacinta Price and Peter Dutton arguing the pair “failed” to provide specifics over allegations of “rampant” Indigenous child sexual abuse.

Senator Price and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton last week repeated calls for the establishment of a royal commission into Indigenous child sex abuse. The Prime Minister was asked if the government would look into the reports but he dismissed the indigenous Northern Territory Senator and said she had not raised anything specific.

“And of course, if there is any abuse then it's a crime and it should be reported to the police as a number of people, including Senator McCarthy and the Northern Territory Government, have said themselves. Senator Price said peak organisations such as SNAICC were ignoring “community issues” and instead focussed purely on the Voice to Parliament.

She said SNAICC had proposed a national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commissioner to investigate significant levels of abuse and neglect in indigenous communities. “But the issue here was it was a call for an immediate royal commission, it was a call saying child sexual abuse was rampant and escalating out of control but what we weren’t seeing on the ground was that that was actually the case.” have reached levels five times higher than any other jurisdiction in Australia.
