Mr Albanese indicated he was in no mood to haggle and would use any obstruction to campaign against the Greens all the way to the next election.“If people think that it’s a great idea to say that they support more investment in social housing, but not back a $10 billion fund that will build more social and affordable housing, then good luck having that argument,” he said.

The Greens are also demanding something be done to ease the rental squeeze. While the government could agree to some smaller demands by the Greens, it will not accept its central claim for billions of dollars extra a year.“You go on about your social hoo-ha and all the rest,” she said. “Stopping this bill and holding it up for months just makes me feel sick to the guts.
