The local council has backed a ban on alcohol after last summer saw numerous reports on drunken disorder.

Summer revellers at Balloch Park will no longer be able to bring alcohol into the park as West Dunbartonshire Council cracks down on public drinking.

The council has been made aware of alcohol-related disorder at their parks, especially in the summer months, and in particular within Balloch Park and has been working with Police Scotland to tackle this issue.The new management rules will not only prevent the consumption of alcohol - where it is in contravention of a council by-law - but will now stop people from being in possession of alcohol.

Speaking about the new rules, councillor Michelle McGinty said: “I welcome the changes to the bylaws. “Both the police and the community were very frustrated as they knew they were going to drink in the park.
