Alcohol-related deaths have fallen in Shropshire during the past year, new data suggests.
In 2023, there were a record 65 deaths caused by alcohol consumption in the county, which was up from 54.
A spokesperson for NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin said: “Alcohol is a key risk factor in the development of many long-term conditions such as high blood pressure or hypertension, atrial fibrillation , CVD and stroke. “Across the county, there is a range of support available to reduce the harm caused by alcohol and other drugs, from prevention and early intervention, harm reduction, treatment, and support with recovery.
“As we review our plans as an Integrated Care System going forward, we will place even greater focus on prevention and reducing inequalities within our population that contribute to and worsen ill-health.”
