Aldi says it is one of a number of changes being made
The supermarket is removing pulp trays and punnets from many of its fruit and vegetable products in a bid to reduce waste. The changes have been made in several stores already and the retailer has said it could now roll the changes out to all of its UK stores.
Luke Emery, Aldi's plastics and packaging director, said: "At Aldi, we are constantly reviewing ways to reduce excess plastic and packaging, and these trials on a range of our fruit and vegetables are the next steps in helping us achieve our goals. Last month, the retailer began trialling the removal of plastic packaging on its bananas across selected stores in Yorkshire, the South West, the South East and the Midlands - in a move that would eliminate a further 234 tonnes of plastic packaging a year if rolled out nationally, the supermarket predicted.
