Aled Jones recalls ‘scary’ performance for Charles and Diana: 'It was just the two of them'

The Welsh singer first rose to fame as a 14-year-old choirboy when his version of Walking In The Air from the legendary animated film The Snowman became one of the nation’s best-loved seasonal songs.

“Aled has done about 350 Christmas albums, but this is my first,” laughs former I’m A Celebrity... star Russell, 55. When it comes to their plans for the festive season, the pair are looking forward to spending some quality time with their families after a busy build-up to 25 December, which includes embarking on a 21-date UK tour together.

Aled, who has daughter Emilia and son Lucas with his wife Claire, will also be enjoying some well-deserved downtime with his loved ones. “I’ve heard her sing around the house before and she’s got a lovely voice, but she’s always wanted to act. Then this opportunity came for her to do both. It’s been amazing watching her, but what I love most is she works so hard.”

During their long singing careers, Aled and Russell have performed for some high-profile people, including Pope John Paul II and former American President, George W Bush. But our royal family are among their most ardent fans. “It was just so private – it was just the two of them. It was an experience I’ll never forget and I pinch myself because one minute I was in school with my mates and the next I was in Kensington Palace. It was surreal.”
