MANILA, Philippines — Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala continued to shine in the International Tennis Federation Women's 100 Tennis Tournament in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain , as she advanced to the finals in the women's singles event.On Saturday, the world number 155 of the Women's Tennis Association defeated Maria Jose Portillo Ramirez of Mexico in the semifinals with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory in two sets.
The 5th-seeded Eala started her singles tournament defeating the Netherlands' Lian Tran 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 32, followed by winning a close match with Spain's Lucia Cortez Llorca 7-5, 7-5, then another close win over Ukraine's Yulia Starodubtseva in the quarterfinals 7-6, 6-4.As of this writing, her finals opponent will either be 2nd-seeded Jessika Ponchet of France or 7th-seeded Victoria Jimenez of Andorra.
