Newcastle United defender Alex Murphy moves to Bolton Wanderers for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. The 20-year-old will gain valuable first-team experience in League One.

Newcastle United has officially announced that young defender Alex Murphy has joined Bolton Wanderers on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. The loan move is pending EFL approval. Murphy, a 20-year-old who can play both in central defense and left-back, made his Premier League debut last season during Newcastle's 4-1 victory against Chelsea. He signed a new long-term contract with the club in May after solidifying his place in the first-team squad.

Having joined Newcastle from his hometown club, Galway United, in the summer of 2022, Murphy also represents the Republic of Ireland at the under-21 level. Murphy joins Bolton Wanderers, who are currently placed ninth in League One, and could potentially make his debut for the club against Charlton Athletic at home on Tuesday evening
