The former first minister's body will return to Scotland this afternoon.
Alex Salmond ’s coffin has been draped in a saltire and taken off on the flight which will return him home to Scotland. The flight took off from Ohrid St Paul the Apostle Airport – just after 10.20am UK time.
Salmond’s body was carried by six members of the North Macedonian military to the flight, along a red carpet which was flanked by eight other soldiers standing at attention, to the sound of a trumpet. The private plane charter was organised by the Alba Party with assistance by Holyrood officials, with Hunter covering costs.
