Alison Hammond was reduced to tears on Friday 4 March while hosting This Morning during the show's Dear Deidre segment.
"What people don't realise is that obesity is a disease. You can't help wanting to eat all the time." Addressing the NHS, Alison said: "The NHS needs to see it as a disease. People help people who are anorexic, but they don't help people who are overweight. That's why so many people turn to surgery and things like that, because we don't know what to do."
"You have nothing to apologise for," he told Alison. "You're an inspiration and I'm very proud of you."
