Baldwin's lawyers said they were pleased with the decision to dismiss the case
Alec Baldwin was charged with two counts of manslaughter. Charges against actor Alec Baldwin over the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust have been dropped, according to his lawyers.
Santa Fe prosecutors had filed two involuntary manslaughter charges against the star following Miss Hutchins death at the Bonanza Creek Ranch,New Mexico in October 2021. Baldwin was practising firing a prop gun when it went off – killing Miss Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.A statement from Baldwin’s lawyers, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, said: “We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident.”There are five ongoing civil cases against Baldwin and the producers of Rust and it not known if these charges are also set to be dropped.
Prosecutors are understood to be still pressing forward with involuntary manslaughter charges against the movie’s weapons supervisor, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who has pleaded not guilty to them. Baldwin asked for the lawsuit filed, which was filed by the parents and sister of Miss Hutchins to be dismissed earlier this month.Both the Santa Fe district attorney, Mary Carmack-Altwies, and the special prosecutor in the case, Andrea Reeb, had previously stepped down from the case.
