A 5,000-spectator venue has secured the support of Lancashire County Council’s development control committee
Borough Council following a formal consultation and could see three parcels of land form a 27 hectare development. Separate plans for the wider site include up to 1,300 homes, a park and ride facility and two-form primary school and a planning decision is expected soon.
. This application alone is estimated to lead to an annual £120m injection into the local economy with more than 2,000 jobs created., in partnership with Protium, shared plans to cut its carbon emissions by developing a green hydrogen energy production facility at the site. When operational, the move will save up to 11,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year - the same as taking 5,800 cars off the road.
The Samlesbury Net Zero project, coupled with other initiatives, aims to help Lancashire's biggest brewery, which has been in operation for over 50 years, meet its thermal demand, heating and needs through green hydrogen energy. It is hoped that as well as reducing the brewery’s carbon emissions, it will lead to cleaner air and reduced vehicle noise with heavy goods vehicles also being powered by hydrogen.
