“All we want is equality and justice for our black community”
Speaking out about the issue, Leigh-Anne shared a moving video with her millions of followers, detailing the hurt and frustration she felt while standing in solidarity with fellow Black people and allies."People would say to me, 'It's in your head. Of course people love you, what do you mean?'" Leigh-Anne spoke candidly about the reality of colourism and how it has benefitted her in her BBC documentary, where she also spoke to her fiancé Andre Gray about his past colourist tweets. She explained the above when she met with Sociologist and Black Studies lecturer Dr Dionne Taylor – who conducted research exploring the impact of popular culture representations on young black British women – at Birmingham City University’s City Centre Campus.
