While the threat of walkouts by air traffic control and airport workers has waned, UK rail strikes and overtime bans look set to continue, however, and pockets of industrial action could affect air travel efeatherstone_ reports
on 26 August and 2 September, with more than 20,000 workers set to walk out.
Some rail operators have said they do not expect to be able to run their full timetables. They include: Chiltern Railways, Gatwick Express, Greater Anglia, Great Western Railway, Great Northern, Southern, South Western Railway, Island Line, Thameslink and TransPennine Express. Further strike dates could be planned for August. Unions must provide at least two weeks’ notice of industrial action.On 5 July, Union Syndicale Fédérale announced industrial action by air traffic control workers. This led Eurocontrol, a pan-European organisation supporting European aviation, to warn of potential disruption to air travel in Europe this summer.
That said, air traffic control delays continue and led easyJet to pre-emptively cancel 1,700 summer flights.have also caused disruption, although no further dates have been announced.
