The politician says he is leaving with immediate effect as Labour has become a 'party of antisemites, racists and homophobes'.

"Allan Barclay was deselected as a Labour candidate by his local party and therefore could not stand as a Labour candidate in the upcoming local elections. We reject his dangerous rhetoric and baseless claims," he said.

His resignation letter has been sent to the Labour leader, his deputy Tom Watson and Labour's general secretary Jennie Formby. In it, he said:"The Labour Party has been infiltrated by people who do not hold Labour values."Support is haemorrhaging due to the 'Corbynites' actions and true Labour voters no longer have a reason to support Labour at the ballot box."This is the only way that the party can become respectable again.

"This is reckless language to use at a time when support for the extremist Far Right is growing in our country and across Europe." Mr Barclay also alleged that he had seen complaints made that a local Labour Party officer had referred to Jewish people as"dirty rats", black members of parliament being racially abused and denial of the Holocaust.
