Opening the trial, prosecutor Amelia Cairney told the court each of Mr Hainsworth's alleged victims were killed in a "violent and deliberate manner". "All three were killed in their own homes, while they were alone, all three were known to the accused," Ms Cairney said. The suspected murders of Phyllis Harrison, Beverley Hanley and Stephen Newton are believed to be linked.Ms Cairney told Justice Adam Kimber, who is presiding over the trial without a jury, that each of the three crime scenes revealed a DNA profile consistent with the accused's presence at the scene.
She said Ms Hanley, Mr Hainsworth's aunt and second alleged victim, lived within walking distance of his home in Adelaide's northern suburbs.
